'evening all

The HJ Caprice protect trundles along. Back from sandblaster and making progress.

I have a question specific to the side protector strips running the length of the car (about half way down the doors / fenders). I need to sort this out now, as it will affect if I do any more body fabrication (filling of rivet / clip holes) etc. before I continue with body prep / painting.

When I purchased it, it had what I was told is the later HX or HZ strip fitted (not original). This is a chrome strip about 30mm wide, with a black rubber insert around 10mm wide rinning down the middle of it (slightly off centre).

I'm seeking several things:

1. What was the original strip fitted to this, including width, style and colour (the car's original colour is a dark metallic brown)

2. How was this held on? The stud-rivet/clip style (similar to that used to hold the windscreen chrome trim on), or holes / clips? My car seems to have both holes down the side, and the stud-rivets, but I suspect this is a result of the retrofitting of the non-original strip.

3. Does anyone know where I can get the right strip? (I'm based in Melbourne, but can freight from anywhere in Australia.)

Thanks in advance

Matt

HJ-HX normally (not certain if Caprice is the same) use holes on the ends of the strips and studs in between. The ends have a screw from behind. From memory it is the ends of the doors and the front of the guards that have holes. The rear of the quarter may as well.

If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords?
