My WB Statesman column shift Trimatic auto has a lot of play at the lever. For example, to select Drive, I have to go to 'S' for Drive to engage, then there's enough slop there that I can move the lever to Drive.

A selector shaft T-piece goes into a fork bolted to the right side of the trans. I can see play here on one end of the selector shaft T-piece, the opposite end to the spring-loaded end.

In the parts manual there's what looks like a washer on the T-piece where mine has play, which mine doesn't have. It's not really clear what it is supposed to do — it doesn't look like it's meant to be a bushing to take up the slack mine has.

So is there supposed to be a bush on the selector here? (Sorry I don't have a pic, might try to get one later in the week)

I think the washer loads up the spring. The bushes in these wear out, maybe find another setup off any column shift trimatic HQ-WB. Easy to changeover.
