Fitted a 9 inch diff with drum brakes over the Christmas break the car is a Hk Holden first I had the Hk backing plates on but the Hk drums wouldn't fit by a least 7mm they hit the backing plates,so I then fitted Hq backing plates they fitted but the Ht drums don't go in enough probably by 8 mm you can see some of the brake pads can this be left like this??, has any one got any suggestion or come across this problem any help appreciated.

There are 4 possible solutions.
1. Get custom axles made, to suit the offset of either the HK or the HQ brakes.
2. Use Ford brakes.
3. Copy what Ford did for the XW/XY 9-inch brakes. They used spacers to bring the backing plate out the line up with the drum. This was done to make standard Australian Falcon brakes match the the offset of the US made housing & axles.
4. Fit rear discs.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

I believe my mate with a HK 307 Monaro and a 9 inch diff has the ford rear brakes.
I would rather go the disc rear if it was me, mainly if you were going to push the car hard would be a good idea.

I have an XW GT diff for my HK. I'll use the Ford backing plates with HQ drums. I have to turf the axles though and get new ones as they are small centre axles with Ford pattern on them. |
