Im not sure what is going on with my sender unit. The car gauge works fine, thats an easy test.I replaced the original sender unit as the cork had disintegrated with a new rares unit. It would work from full but after about halfway on the car fuel guage, it would not read lower. Just stay around half . Pulled it in and out of the tank a couple of times with no change. Rares replaced the unit without a problem. It seemed to work for a while but the guage in the car suspiciously didn't flicker while driving as they usually do and I thought i'd better check it out. Lucky I did. The bloddy tank is empty! but the guage reads half.
Are there issues with these sender units? am i missing something? These are pretty simple to install so i'm out of ideas. This is the second unit. any ideas? thanks Alby

if you've done any work on the interior it might be worth checking the wiring under the scuff panels on the drivers side. you may have accidently nicked the wire loom and be effecting the resistance to the gauge. was the original sender going down to empty.

Original sender was fine. The float kept sinking due to perished cork

If you haven't already tried it you might try removing the wire from the sender in the boot and shorting to the body. The gauge should go to zero. If it doesn't you have a high resistance somewhere, or a faulty fuel gauge. You can do the same test at the white 8 pin body harness connector, above the right hand kick panel. The pink cable is the one from the sender.
