Hi there.
Can anyone tell me if 304 heads will fit on a 253 block, and if so any potential issues?
Cheers

To answer the question, basically all Holden V8 heads will fit all Holden V8 blocks. So, no problems as long as you have the appropriate inlet manifold.

But & it's a big BUT. What do people mean when they say "304" ? Do they mean EFI V8s ? Do they mean VK/VL & later V8s ? Do they mean unleaded V8 ?

They simple facts are, that when Holden went from 308 to 304 in mid-VK, there were very few other changes. In fact the stroke was reduced only 37 thou (0.037-inch) & nothing else that mattered was changed.

Sounds like the Canadian Grey motor & HP block myths all over again

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Normal VK 304 will, but they are really the same as any other 253 or 308 heads except for the EGR port shape so you need the right manifold.

VK V5H 304 or Group A 304 heads are big valve and valves might hit the block deck.

VL 304 heads are big valve too.

No point with VN-VSIII 304 heads, you'll send up with an 8.0:1 compression 253 and ports are too big.
