Hello all, just back from a road trip to Lake Gairdner, for the 28th Speed Week on the salt.
This was my first visit and it was so much fun. A big contingent of Americans teams were there, and my conversations with them confirmed that the yanks reckon our salt lake racing is much better than Lake Bonneville. Just a bit more effort needed to get to lake Gairdner!
There was close to 3000 people there over the week.
This event is now on my calendar for next year.
If you like a road trip, camping and big horsepower, this is the place!
Cheers

My first trip to the salt as well.
Have to agree with the above comment...nothing better than people trying to drive a vehicle as fast as it will go.
This will be an annual event for me as well.

I went about 15 years ago to see what it was all about. Stayed in the shearers quarters on Mt Ive Station, best described as basic!
Watching the cars emerge through the heat haze and disappear into the distance on full noise was worth the journey.
Tough to break 200 mph let alone 300. John Lynch's belly tank went close to 300 as l recall.

Went again this year. Fastest vehicle was from the USA. Top speed was 308mph.
Next year is the 30th year. Plan to have the event over 8 days starting 17/3. There will be officials from the FIM and FIA for world record attempts.
Expect a good number of entries from the USA.(words from the DLRA president)
