My mate in NZ is putting a Black 202 (Carby) into an FJ. He was told that you can't get extractors for a black 202 to fit into an FJ. Anyone know who can supply one? I have seen them advertised on Ebay for a WB/VK etc but will it fit when the motor is in an FJ?
Thanks in advance.

I remember years ago putting a blue 3.3 into a HQ that had a red 202 in it. The car had from memory Perry extractors. The centre ports lined up, it was the outside ones that were off by maybe 5-10mm, I stretched the outer pipes away from centre (front forward, back backwards) to make it fit. Tell him to try some red FJ extractors on a blue/black head and he'll see what I mean. It shouldn't be that hard to modify them to fit.

Thanks HK1837.
I spoke to him last night and told him to find someone with a WB/VK with a black motor and extractors and check the clearances between the chassis rails and around the gearbox area as they will be the same for the motor/gearbox (trimatic) but may be narrower in an FJ between the chassis rails. The WB/VK extractors may be closer to the chassis rails when fitted in an FJ?????
Is the head manifold face on a Blue and Black Motor the same? I have only worked on Red Motors over the years and only replaced a Blue 202 in a Commodore once about 20 years ago.....

From memory inlets are very different red-blue but exhausts are close. Just put gaskets for each side by side. I doubt very much that VB-VK extractors will fit an FJ.

Have a look at these

Blue & black heads are the same when it comes to ports & bolt patterns.

One thing you may find, is the actual "floor height" of how the extractors run down the LH side under the passenger floor will vary between the models, ie the way Commodore pipes run under the floor may be too "high" - ie lining up with running too close to the floor, or hitting it

Also the crossmember location (commodore is at the rear, so the 2 pipes (common across most extractory) snake between the crossmember & starter before joining up under the passenger floor.
The way they route may hit the firewall where it joins the floorpan.
Cheers,

Mick

Thanks all.
I thought about the floor, suspension and chassis rail issues but until I have a set in front of me and the car they are going into, I can't make any assumptions. The motor and box dimensions will be the same as a VK commodore as it is a 202 auto out of a VK. He owned the FJ many years ago and is able to get it back. The current owner is doing the panel and paint (panel beater mate) as well as getting it up and running with all the running gear fitted and done.
I live at Blackbutt in Qld and I haven't seen any VK's lately around here nor have I ever done any work on one.
Thanks again.
Cheers
Ron
