Does anyone know for certain what is different between HQ L30 M41 gearbox crossmember and HJ-HZ L31 M41 (TH400) gearbox? Forget the commercial ones for now, just the passenger examples. They are different part numbers. The L31 examples have the mounting slots dead centred. Do the HQ L30 examples have the mounting slots slightly off centre like HK-HG with SBC engines. Both have the engine tilted slightly as the mount adapters are different heights. |

It's been a long time since I've seen a genuine HQ L31/M41 crossmember, but do they have the re-enforcing plates welded to underside of them, as the HJ/X/Z ones have. Dr Terry |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Yes I'm pretty sure they do. |

HQ with TH400 , rear mount looks to be in the centre of the gearbox cross member & it has the welded on reinforcing plates on the underside. . I made a pattern of the drop part of the cross member and it seems to be the same shape as a HQ 253 Auto one. Thanks Mark. |

So the slots are located evenly either side of the little drain hole in the little low section towards the rear of the crossmember? Are the slots neatly cut (like a Trimatic crossmember’s slots) or are the rough cut, like they have been oxy cut? |

I cannot see any slots in the picture's I tried to take while I was under it. I will go and jack it up again and unbolt the plate that is over the holes. Thanks Mark. |

Slots are very neat , not gas cut . Bolt sits exactly in the middle of the slot. Thanks Mark. |

Thanks Mark. If the slots and holes are dead even of the centreline of the car I can’t see how a HQ one differs from a HJ-HZ. If they were offset to one side was the only thing I could think of. |

I just had a guy get back to me that has one that came from a HQ but he isn't sure if it was from there originally. He said the slots are slightly off-centre (compared to the drain hole at the back). Although I have done an online search for images, and it looks like some have the slots roughly the same length as the holes either side (to get to the transmission bolts), and others have the slots significantly longer towards the rear of the crossmember. It is possible the shorter slots are the HQ ones, and they just made the slots longer for 308 TH400, hence the part number change. When I can get to it I'll jack up my HJ Premier as it has its original one in it, and see if it has long or short slots. |
