I have a question that might be obvious to some, but I have to ask anyway because it's not obvious to me.

With the trimatic and Turbo 400 transmissions is it possible to have them be operated by the column shift in an HZ or something like that?

I have seen a kit but just not really sure on the details. Any insight will be appreciated

Column shift autos exist, I've added some screenshots from a HJ parts book so you can see the steering column and gearbox setup.
There was a gear indicator on top of the steering column. It showed 'P R N D 2 1'.
Also only had a single shift lever at the bottom of the column as opposed to the double setup for the 3 speed manual.
It looks like there is a bit more bracketry down by the gearbox but I am not familiar with that.
There are a lot of common parts as I have used a fair few bits from an auto column in my HJ manual.
There is a hole in the firewall plate in manual columns where the clutch goes through that you would need to blank off if you adapt a manual column.

In the case of the Trimatic, the column shift version is (was) far more commonplace than the T-Bar version. The 2 pics posted by 202tonner show the parts required. The shift lever is on the RH side of the gearbox case.

The TH400 (& TH350) was more commonly seen as a T-Bar, column shift versions are quite rare. The shift lever is on the LH side of the gearbox case, requiring a cross-shaft & relay lever set-up quite different to the Trimatic type.

Here is the Turbo setup. Very different.


And the Trimatic section shows a solenoid as well, kickdown I think but I don't know much about autos.

TH400 have electric kick down too, using the same switch as the Trimatic. The switch changed in 1976, the early one is a press button type (as pictured) while the later one is a slider.
