Hi,
Check out this thermostat housing on my 186. The old cast iron one is looking ugly, so I asked for it to be replaced along with the rotated harmonic balancer. The mechanics tried 5 different ones and none matched. I'm wondering if my dad might have use one off a grey motor or something when he rebuilt the engine over 40 years ago.

Maybe off a Chevrolet engine like a blue flame or similar.

Isn't that the 1st version of Grey motor type ?

AFAIK the FX to EK outlet is vertical is in the picture, while the later (EJ) one is angled.

The older (vertical) one is the only one that you can't buy new aftermarket. They list the EJ type s fitting right back to 48, which it doesn't.

Dr Terry
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

True. The automotive workshop couldn't find a vertical one, even after I suggested it could be off a grey motor. So they cleaned up the old one, painted it with epoxy and put it back. I reckon it's good for another 40 years.
