Hi All,
Got a 1966 Holden Hr Wagon and it won't start. Got fuel but no spark. I think it has burnt out the coil, this will be the second one in 2 months. It has electronic ignition which i believe is out of a VH commodore, running with a Bosch HEC 716 coil. Any thoughts why the coils are burnig out? Cheers

Have you modified the wiring so the coil gets 12V not 9V?
On later Holden all you do is pull the ignition switch out and solder a bridge between the Start and Run terminals. Not sure if HR is the same setup but should be.

Not sure about that, set up was in car when i bought it 6 years ago. All has been good except in the last few months. Will check ignition switch. Does soldering the bridge remove the resistance wire out of the loop?

Yes. You can do it other ways but that is the easiest way. |

It may not be the cause of your problems but might be. Note you can buy new traditional style HEI coils now from Goss. Part number C176 I think it is. |
