Hey everyone,

A couple of days ago my cruze just started misfiring when i started it up. Drove it to the mechanic right next to where it was parked and the mechanic said it was misfiring on cylinder 1 and it could be a coil pack issue. The Mechanic wanted 600$ to fix it so I just walked down the road to the wreckers and bought a new coil pack for a 110$. But with the new coil pack, the engine wouldn't turn over and just kept cranking. Put the old coil pack in and it ran fine.

The issue now is that the car runs fine for 30ish mins and starts misfiring again, but if I leave it alone for a couple of hours its fine to drive again for a bit.

Dont really know a lot about cars and this was the first time i tried working on it as a mate told me that the coil pack was a super simple repair. Really lost with this as I need the car for work :/

start.. with simple stuff

pull the plugs and replace them .... cheap and quick, when were they replaced?
( a lot of misfires these days are simply plugs with a squillion kms on them)

then next? yes the coil pack but you need the right one ...
a new good (Holden OEM quality or Bosch or PAT) single one is at least $100
and the later complete (4) coil rail is at least $350

your mechanics $600 is a tad over the top... but the wreckers cheapie
is no better

Club circuit racing...the best fun you can have with your pants on

You bought a "new"coil pack from the wreckers for $110". Was it a cheap & nasty new one or a 2nd hand one ?

Fix it yourself. Be careful there are 4 different coils in 2013, depends on which engine you have (the wrecker probably sold you the wrong one).

Spark plugs are cheap & a new (quality) coil should be around $180 - $290 depending on which engine.

$600 is not that 'over the top' depending on what brand of coil & plugs he is fitting & what other work is being done.

Remember labour rates are well over $100 per hour these days & tools & equipment (scanners etc.) are not cheap.
