You regularly find fluffs in the records where someone has typed the wrong number for say a Torana PSN and over-wrote the data they were entering for the Torana (engine number, selling dealer etc) over say a HQ or HT or whatever else was in the system. So what happened once they reached H999999 or H499999 for respectively Pagewood and Acacia Ridge? Or for others like Elizabeth PSN's that over-wrote Mosman Park PSN's? We know they then re-used H500000 and H100000, what happened to the records that were originally against those PSN’s? It was an open database so hard to erase all fields against a PSN.
HK... all a hangover from the days when each individual plant had paper records and only paper records I reckon
the old plants making stuff , like Birkenhead and Beverly in SA, DISCO in Melbourne etc all even Woodville started with paper
only as I found when I started. DISCO daily production and parts usage was hand written on 99 column paper (in pencil)
brought up to Plant Accounting in Salmon st and verified by us bean counters the next morning.
Then taken down to EDP at Dandenong that afternoon and key punched onto paper tape.. and fed into the IBM mainframes
Next morning.... back came the output of that for checking and if OK, signed off by the Plant Accounting Manager
.. in the case of when I started a guy called Alan Nanscawen and posted into the books and ledgers
So PSN Numbers? yeah a dogs breakfast
and as for the guys who claim all matching numbers (like FORD did) ? They are having us on.. just not possible
and you have given one of the main reasons why!
