Winner winner.
Make sure you fit a Quadrajet and 4BBL intake, plus HEI distributor. Or better still a Holley Sniper and Hyperspark. |

The first official use of the 253 was in the Hurricane and it had a Quadrajet too.
It probably costs more to rebuild a 4.2 than a 5.0, other than buying the block. But you won’t have to spend much on heads as they are normally good enough for the 4.2L. My guess will be 9.5-9.8:1, rebuilt heads, 4BBL intake, Quaddy, HEI dizzy, single 2.5” exhaust and cam/springs to suit the engine, trans, diff ratio and tyres. |

Good luck. If you haven't done it before take lots of pictures as you do it to help remember how it all goes back together.

Hi all and thanks for the suggestions. Another couple of questions. ◘Was the original premier front grill plastic insert? ◘Does anyone know where I can get the exterior moulding refurbished?

All HZ grilles were plastic with stainless surround. Exceptions were the standard cab-chassis which was painted or chromed steel. Caprice which had the top stainless removed and replaced with a chromed die cast piece. And SL/E which was a full plastic piece chromed.
Kingswood, Kingswood SL, GTS, Premier, Ambulance cab-chassis were the same grille just painted differently, although from memory some were grey plastic and some were black. Deville and Caprice were the same plastic just painted differently plus the top bit as already mentioned. It was actually the same grille as HX Deville and Caprice. |
