Hi all, I just took the top off my quadrajet rochester to clean the fuel bowl as the float was sticking,it seems to pump fuel when you depress the plunger with the lid off, when I put the top back on it won't pump, any ideas.was ok previously.

The nozzles must be blocked. That's the only thing you've changed by removing the carby top.

BTW, I've never seen a float "sticking" in a Quadrajet, they usually become porous & sink, making the carb run overly rich.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

firstly, why clean the fuel bowl? ....isn't there a fuel filter in line somewhere? (externally or in the carb inlet fitting?) should be!
and also
don't get the comment ' seems to pump fuel when you depress the plunger with the lid off but when you replace the top back on it won't pump'

You have to replace the accelerator pump plunger in its bore BEFORE you put the gasket on and replace the top airhorn cover
and have the fuel bowl FULL of fuel
