Find an XF with an EFI engine and swap that in to start with.

Alloy head to save weight and those EFI engines make 170hp stock.

The later XFs with the indicators in the front bumper are designed to run on Unleaded, so keep a lookout for one of those

G'day mate i would get a secondhand EFI head off an XF 1986 EFI but make sure it is a E2 head. and shave that about 35thou. these heads are open chamber heads and out flow the stock carby heads. extractors 2.5" exhaust.

yer an xf EFI with some extractors and 2.25 or 2.5 inch exhaust. the stock EFI motor will go pretty good, better than your XE 250. the wiring for the EFI isnt 2 difficult to put in.the computer and loom shouldnt be to hard 2 fit in, an EFI XF donnor car

you can swap any alloy head (2) onto ur block, the only thing is the compression ratio,it's a leaded engine and if u put the E2 head on the comp will drop and you will have less power, thats y you need 2 mill something off it, then the comp will be more,

You need to make sure the (yellow?) wire is connected to the automatic choke, otherwise this will stop it from 'turning off' or opening up the butterfly.
