Is it normal on all VN's that the brake pedal travel is nearly half way down before engaging. I'm asking for my father, who has a VQ Caprice and is the same (brakes) as the VN I used to own. He's been annoyed since he had the car, although the brakes work fine.

Cheers.

start with a brake fluid change, checking for leaks etc and go from there. Old fluid or air in the system will cause a low pedal.

I'm thinking it's just the way they are for those models. Both mine & my father's were reguarly serviced, including brakes, and they stayed the same. I suppose he'll have to live with it.

Cheers.

Replace the cups & rubbers in the master cylinder.
There is a fine "O" ring in the centre of both pistons, and this can wear out fairly quickly or become distorted over a reasonable period of time.
