G'day all. Well I'm just trying to sort out some info regarding starter motor's for the V6. Due to the conversion into EH the original series 1 VN auto starter is to big to fit. Have been told to use a series 2 or VP Auto starter? I have a spare VP starter and have fitted it in with no problems but just checking if there is any reason why I can't run the newer Delco Remy rather than the Bosch?? The workshop manual I have has "not interchangeable" written with regards to swapping them?? Any problems with pinion/gear's or is ok to use? The Bosch has 9 teeth and the Delco has 10 but the pitch of the teeth looks the same. I have to pull the motor back out to modify the conversion sump so I have not started the motor yet.
Cheer's

Thanks Jim, left you a note on your last post about this one. I have a 2nd hand Delco from a VP already to replace the series 1 VN Bosch. But was just checking with regards to the actual throw out, meshing and the extra tooth. Been told they work OK but j

I went through AutoPro & got a very good price as my brother sold it to me (retail was around $170). What I am going to do is go down to my local holden dealer & find out if the VP flex plate is the same part number as a VR flex plate. If it's the same I'

Got a VP and another series 1 Vn flex plate in the shed. Will count them up and see. The teeth are the same pitch on the starter's so it should be OK?

That would be great. What concerns me more than the pitch of the teeth is that the 9 tooth pinion is smaller than the 10 tooth pinion so therefore in theory should require a slightly larger diamter flywheel/flexplate OR the pinion is in a slightly differe

Well Jim....I measured up the starter's from centre of front mounting bolt to the tip of the tooth on the cog (across the front). There the bloody same!!?? just have a look at the mounting hole and outside edge of the cog teeth and you'll see what I mean.
