im looking at installing a aluminium core radiator from a vt-vx holden v8,into a hq monaro ,can it be done and how many core is it,also would it keep a big block under control approx 620hp,i have a 4 core copper its ok,but rather be safe then sorry,any suggested would be great,thank you.cheers gts082

Did a V6 conversion on a HX and used the commodore radiator. Just cut the mounts off the commy and either weld or bolt em up to the support panel. Used all the standard mounting clips/rubbers etc. Not sure of the mounts on the newer commodore but the ol

What was done on my HQ was a couple of metal strips to take from the bottom mounting holes on the radiator to holes in the mounting panel.

there is no way a standard vt-vx radiator will cope with a 620 hp . you will need at least a 3row fine fin radiator custom built.

Copper radiators are better than aly ones. aly ones have a reputation for corroding out. Especially in a situation thye were not designed for.also you braze repair a copper radiator you can't do anything with a ally one.

I have a 454 in a HJ and have spent alot of time and effort trying to keep it cool. I dont believe a VT/VX radiator would be any good. I run an alloy radiator, it wont corrode out if you run the proper coolant (VN type onwards). A copper/brass will be jus

Agree on the airflow. Had a metal 5-blade, and it couldn't cope. (shroud not effective). Went to a couple of 10" electrics, and it made the world of difference. The fans bolt right up to the radiator, and boy did they shift some air, and it was all thr |

the VX/VT radiator is better than some, but not enough for your application. you need a big custom Alloy, or even a 3 row desert cooler etc. the VT/VX is a bit thin for that much HP get a 4 inch thick alloy 3 row.

yep Aussie desert coolers do a wide range, using there small block chev unit in the EH with twin permacool thermo's. But a quick google search will show up other's in your area doing custom aluminium etc. Bloke on another forum just got an alum one from h

are desert coolers all theve said to be? i ve heard notheing but goot things about em.
i wanna put 1 in my hj with a blown 327 but wanna make sure its gunna be good before i outlay that $$$$$!!!!

I was curious to see if Aussie Desert coolers were any good too BLWNHJ. well..... theres a good answer, second hand gear, copious leaks and trouble. thats put me off desert coolers for sure. and re coring it... for a price thats a bit rude. it shouldve been to that standard to begin with.
