hey guys i own a hj kingswood with a 202 on dual fuel, it has a 350 holley and small extractors. the engine has been reco'd about 30,000 km ago.
What i'm chasing is some cheap power. honestly all i want is to be able to keep up with most commodores say VN-VP's and to be able to get the wheels spinning. is this asking to much for a 202? what do you guys suggest doing to it without going as far as a whole new engine.

Build it up to LJ XU1 spec and a 3:36 ratio diff -these 202`s raced at bathurst. But if you don`t have a big wallet and I take it yours is an auto, change it to a manual and 3:55 or 3:36 diff ratio will get it spinning all over, but forget about out doing

There'd be many goodies a red 202 would want for xmas but just as a stocking filler you could give ol' red a blue electronic dizzy: Merry Christmas one and all

Cheap power eh! Well, im guessing you mean your looking to spend less than $1000 (which is very do-able!), but you need to tell us more about your car! Is it auto or manual, what diff ratio, does it have subwoofers??
I have a UC Torana and the old mo

My car has the stock 3 speed auto, i am unsure of the diff ratio, but i'm looking at getting an LSD with a celica 5spd in front of it like cloudy suggests.
what is involved in converting it to straight gas? what areas should i expect gains in by ins

Good move going for the celica box and lsd! I have a 4speed, but supra box is waiting to go behind my worked motor!! You'll pick up some pace in just doing that!
With regards to going straight gas, im not 100% on that - pretty sure you'd just go stra

I am in agreeance with the others that you wont have a Commodoresque type of acceleration for $1500 spent on your motor. A straight gas setup Gas Research carby, electronic ignition, extractors, extra items that will crop up along the way, Proper dyno tun |

Thinking outside the square:
Buy a rusted out HQ-HZ or VB Commodore with 308 for $1000. Swap it all over. You will have to buy a new gas converter and newgen mixer also. |

Then there's that! Personally i would rather rebuild a V8 if its in a rusted out heap! I like my car to hold its oil and burn its fuel! Keith!

Yes, but there are always good quality vehicles out there that someone has spent good money on rebuilding a V8 (or 6cyl for that matter) and the body has rusted away from being parked outside in a coastal city. Normally the owners want $2500 for them, but |

http://carpoint.ninemsn....alias=carpointau&id=7229obviously building a motor to this spec would cost over $1000, but it gives you a good idea of which parts can work well.

The Blue heads breathe better than the reds and VK injection bolts straight onto them.
That's the good bit.
The bad bit is trying to find aftermarket manifolds for different carbies...rare and expensive!
Cheers...Dave

I'd have to disagree with a part of your statement Duzty! Not saying you dont know your stuff mate, but all the racing guru's are no longer polishing their heads after porting them - this is due to scientific flow research proving that a head will flow b
