Where was the fuel coming from? Most of the time it is either a blocked needle and seat, or too much fuel pressure.

it's coming out of the top of the carby where the air filter sits on top. The needle & seat look fine (my opinion)

It is a Holley or a quadrajet. If its a holley, try adjusting the float levels.

Once you have fuel coming out the side, you know your float is set - tighten your nut up and put the bolt back in! I've got a 350 holley that used to do that and its not float level (mechanic wouldnt tell me what it was back then!!).
