Hi I am new here and had a question to do with some Torana wheels I got off my uncle.
I got them home and tried to put on the hubcaps but they do not have the lugs on the wheel for cap fitment at all. Nothing?, the wheels i took off have lugs for the caps to hook on to. These wheels have none.
The reason I got them is they look wider than my original LJ wheels.
Can some one tell me what the story with these wheels is?

might be GTR rims which had a small centre cap held on by the wheel nuts.

if you have a set of 4 remove the tyres to identify the date codes...last set i put on ebay made just under $1000 ....they would have made more if they had an early date code but the set i had were a last run in 76...

if you can get that sort of money for them, sell them and spend the money on widening the stockies, cant remember exactly what it costs, but i think i was quoted less than $150 per wheel to fit 15x8 rims to my GTS wheels.

Are the LC GTR steel rims the same as the XU1 steel rims? I have a set of LC GTR 6 inch steel rims. They're not for sale, but I was just wondering whether they were worth good cash. The other thing is that once I pull the Torana out of storage, I'll make

LC GTR's ran 5½" wide rims (which will measure 6½" from outside to outside) whereas the XU-1's ran 6" wide rims (which will measure 7" from outside to outside).

If you have 6" LC/LJ rims, they are XU-1 wheels AFAIK.

Hi Guys.

AFAIK all LC/LJ GTR & XU-1 steel wheels are 5.5", only the Sprintmaster alloys were 6".

When XU-1s were 1st released in 1970 they just used the GTR rims. Around the 1971 Bathurst CK release they introduced the stronger 'nibless' rims & thes

terry is correct,5.50jj is the xu1 rim...sprintmasters were 6 inch and the only wheel in that width for torana...search on ebay..item number 4624789655..its an auction that has ended but still comes up and shows the date coding...

4 cyl Commodores had the wheels that you describe. Torana wheels with no lugs for the hub caps.

Hi JBM.

I assume we're talking about 13" Torana style rims.

The L34 & A9X are a spoke style rim & are 14"

Jim's point about the Commodore 4 rims is a good one, I wonder how much different the offset is.

Strooth.

I had no idea these wheels could be worth something.
Had another chat to my uncle.
He told me he got the rims off a mate many years ago with the intention of putting them on a trailer.
The car was a hot Torana but he knows less about cars t

Bright pink sounds like an early Torana. They had some amazing colours.

I've now worked out I have a set of 5.50JJ rims. That means I'm rich!!!

Only joking!

Bugger, I was thinking of the SLR5000 rims when I mentioned the 6" version...I had a set on an LJ which is what confused me. Well, that's my excuse anyway :-)

Thanks for the correction Dr Terry.

Cheers...Dave
