wishing to confirm a few basic things about holden motors. are all the six cylinder motors basicly the same in the mountings both the engine mounts and the gearbox flange where the bell housing mates up. Similarly what about the V8's. I gathere the 8's are different to the 6's, diferent bell housing, different mounts. Are the V8's the same as the small chevies.
not much interested in the new fangled bent 6's but I would expect they would be different again
digressing slightly how much do the clutch arrangements vary. I know that the V8 input shaft is longer.
All so I can understand what fits in what & what gear boxes mate up.
I'm a manual man so the various auto variations arent of much interest unless it makes the motor different.
thanks chaps

Forgetting the pre 1963 'grey' motors, all Holden 6 cylinders from 1963 (EH) to 1985 (VK) have the same bellhousing pattern. The starfire 4cyl (1979-1983) is also the same. The clutches were basically the same from 1963 through to 1979 and starfire 4, exc |

Just to add to Byron's comprehensive post above...the Holden V8 mounts, etc are different to their Chev equivalents.
The only thing that the Holden V8's and the Chev V8's share is the bellhousing pattern on some of the Holden V8's as Byron pointed out

Hi Guys.
To add to what Byron has said, all Holden sixes from the 48 series to VK have the gearbox bolt pattern & the clutches on Grey motors are the same as early Reds. The Grey crank has a different bolt pattern & unique engine mounts.

What gearbox are you going to use in the UC behind the 304? |
