Rebuilding my Celica steel case after I bought it with a crushed front lower bearing. I've heard whispers that this can be replaced with a tougher needle bearing. Anyone done this? Would it just be a matter taking the ball bearing code in and having the bearing shop match it to a roller bearing instead?

Spud Try contacting this company in Sydney. They have been doing all kinds of things to Toyota boxes and fitting them into just about everything for decades. http://www.dellowauto.com.au/Brian

Yes there is a way. I did the same thing and my local bearing shop helped me out. They actually listed a kit to do a Celica box for about $300.
Dellow won't help you with the part number for obvious reasons. They need to protect their own business.

It was just bearings. But, one bearing was very hard to get and that bearing alone was about $100 from another supplier. Also, I remember the sales rep telling me that the main Lay shaft bearing that is usually replaced with a double row needle roller Edited by user Tuesday, 1 August 2006 9:28:02 AM(UTC)

NUP205ANC3 PZ 00504 It's a KOYA brand bearing. Just check with your supplier first. It should be a needle roller bearing and not a Std deep groove ball type. I have a dismantled celica box here that I checked and the sizes should be as follows OD 5 Edited by user Wednesday, 2 August 2006 3:21:54 AM(UTC)

Thanks and. The bottom front bearing in mine just exploded, so definately want to replace with a roller type. I'll go in with the spec and see what they can do.
