Hi I'm planing my next project.
It will be a FX/FJ and as per the norm I want to fit a disc brake front end to it as a start, My question is almost every car I see at shows etc has also had a Rack & Pinion conversion as well, I have notised that rare's and CRS sell HR X members with and without the R&P is there a reason most people go for R&P as well or purly personal choise? |

Hey mate, I've been told that the R&P steering is more direct, but you loose a bit of lock. i reckon you'd only do it if you wanted late model power steering or you old steering box is past it...I considered it recently but opted for a reco kit for the or

When people talk about steering being more direct they are usually referring to the turns lock to lock and how quickly the wheels turn. There is no particular type of steering system that does that better than others, it all comes down the ratios

Front mounted Torana rack (shortened) on a HR front end, If done CORRECTLY, will give you better steering geometry than a CRS kit, Or pretty much any rear mounted rack. I know Because i have one in my FX. If you just fit a rack, with no fu

Which Torana rack, Les? I assume LH/LX?

What are the correct stubs and steering arms as well? How much did you narrow the rack?

LH LX rack works fine, HR [b]DRUM[b/] brake stubs, HQ steering arms with stops cut off, reversed to stick forward, and tapers for tie rod ends reversed as well so that tie rod end comes in from the top, commodore tie rod ends, and unfortunately i cant tel
