hey all,,, have done it,,, 308 t 400 into 98 ford transit??? now before you all start saying what idiot would do that to a transit??
whell they have ps, wheels in front of drivers seat, good sized van, drive nicely on road,, and I needed a van like this because of damaged spinal chord..
so I wonder,,, engine is reving about 400 revs too much at 100k.s, 2800, at 80k.s
how much bigger do I make back wheels, so this drops down to about 28>2900 at 100k.s?
I have to get wheels made anyway because there is nothing decent to fit to transit??
your help is already appreciated
cheers

I really couldnt tell you mate!!

If you could convert to Falcon stud pattern you'd have a better chance of getting wheels, but you'd need some 20" wheels to make that happen.

It'd probably be cheaper for you to just get your diff gears changed to a

Many moons ago, a mate of mine had a couple of transits, both 250/auto combos.

In both of them, he had a Falcon diff centre cut n shut to fit with the Transit axles/wheels/etc. He went for the 3.23 ratio and the diffs were out of XY or XA Falcons or so

3300r@100klms - 10>15% 330>500 = 2800>2900r@100klms? figured get wh

Qute is onto something there!! Maybe thats the go as with the older diffs you tend to have your choice of diff gearing...

Hi fallingbear,

There is a flaw in your thinking...larger diameter wheels are usually wrapped in lower profile tyres, so you end up with the same overall diameter... have a look here: http://www.oldholden.com....php/Changing_diff_ratio for

I seem to remember something about the Transit sharing the 5 stud pattern with the F100 & Chevrolet C series.

I could be completely wrong here though.

Another option which is a variation of Daves is to find the diff out of a late 70's Transit

VP's had the none computer controlled TH700 also. They were also called 4L60 & 4L80 I believe.

They became 4L60E & 4L80E when they went electronic.

CRS does a kit to mount a V6 box behind a V8 block if the V8 box becomes too hard to get.
