I've got a 40 thou over 308 I'm freshening up with new rings, bearings, etc. I want to run a berri brush through the bores to break the glaze, do I use a 4 inch or a 4.5 inch flex hone? and what grit do I use for std iron rings? moly rings? any advice would be appreciated.

This is something best left to a Engine reconditioning shop with a Sunnen Engine honing machine.
The reason I say this, is because the bore needs to be flooded with cutting oil while the hone is in operation. If the glaze is hard a flexible spring loade

Yeah no sweat and thanks, I understand thats the correct way to do it. This motor is only a temporary fix to get me going for another twelve months while I build another. As this block is near the limit I didn't want to go to the expense of a full rebuild
