Gday guys, I am after a WW Stromberg carby with the correct part 23 3035 or 23-201 A or B for the HT/HG 186s Manual Engine. I do not really care what condition it's in as I have time to rebuild it, as long as the numbers match and it's complete. If the price is right I will take it off your hands. I'm in Nowra NSW, can travel to Syd if req or pay for all postage. Contact on email [email protected] or leave a message on here.. cheers james 1970 Green HT UTE... |

Hello crossy,
The carby number you have is off a 253 Man V8 HQ from 73 to 74.
Cheers james

The correct number for a HT-HG 186S stromberg carby is 23-3036. It is a single barrel carby, not a WW stromberg (these are 2 barrel carbies). The WW Stromberg never came out on the 6 cylinder at all.

Hi Guys.
Just to confirm that ALL 186S (and LC GTR 161S and 173S) and virtually all red 253 V8s were fitted with WW 2-barrel Bendix Strombergs. Some HQ and HJ 253s had a Email-Carter 2-barrel fitted, but these are in the minority.

Thankyou Dr Terry
Now, I have purchased a WW Stromberg with part number 23-3034. This is to suit an HT 186 S auto. My question is, will this carby still function ok and to it's purpose on a 186s manual. I really do not know what the difference is

The auto carbs have an extra hole drilled through the throttle body - a "spark port" hole or some such I believe it is called

Hi Guys.
The main difference between a manual & auto carby in the early WWs is where the drill hole for the vacuum advance enters the throttle bore. In manuals the hole is above the throttle plate & in autos it is below the plate. What this means is th |

There is one other possibilty for red 253 carbies - the BS prefixed Bedford engine. I need to check further, but I think these had a 2-barrel Rochester, almost identical to the 307 Chev in HK/T, except the carby has a governer attached to the side. The 30 |

Hi Byron.
AFAIK the Bedford 'Heavy Duty' V8s are actually Blue motors, they had the HEI & the heads with the square EGR port with the extra bolt and I'm pretty they were originally painted Blue. These motors pre-dated VC/WB by nearly 6 months.

Interesting. Ill check the part numbers for the heads and valley covers when Im at Gilbert and Roach next. That means the valley covers must be unique as they were definitely of 2-barrel design in the photos and drawings Ive seen.

Hi Byron.
Yes, they are unique, because the Rochester 2-Jet base is different to the WW anyway.
