Here's a tip - I've got mates in Queensland Transport & the Queensland Police Service, so I'm not just on a soap-box here, it's all true. Re-stamping your block is not only illegal, but dumb - it's re-birthing. If you're trying to pass your car as off as

If you REALLY want the original motor back in the car, get the split bore re-sleeved...

On a kind of related note.. I have also been told that if your car had an accident and the chassis was bent, you are allowed to restamp your replacement chassis with the original number..?? As long as you can prove to the RTA that the old chassis is out o

In queensland you can get a 'surrogate' vin number that the transport department generate & then you stamp it on. I've got no idea if they do the same for engines.

They do in NSW. Same numbers as re-issued chassis numbers. Looks like NxxxxxP.

you cant restamp a VIN number, thats how they can tell if you are using a chassis that is a satutaury write off. if you put a new chassis under a car, in the eyes of the authourities, it becomes the car that the chassis is from.
