hi, i own a landrover with a 186 holden motor, it pings quite bad running on 91 octane, i was just wondering what they were designed to run on from factory, here we have 91/96/and 98 octane, id like to run it on 95 as its cheaper, but stil better for it, any advice welcome..

It should run OK on 95, but you'll probably need to regraph a dizzy for it to run optimally. Use a dizzy and coil off any blue 6 or an EFI VK. Run full 12V to the HEI coil.
What the engine was designed to run on is probably irrelevant as it has probably

Gidday guys. When you say run full 12v to the HEI coil, How do you do it?..Cheers

Either bypass the resistor wire in the harness on a Holden, or in the Landrover it might just simply require removal of a ballast resistor - normally looks like a ceramic box connected to the +ve terminal of the coil.

hi colin did you check your ignition timing & make sure the harrmonic balancer has not spun as they often do allso check the fuel mixture
