thanks for the info jabba so do you need fill them with oil first before putting them in ?cheers

No. They fill very quickly once the engine begins running. But it is a good idea to put either oil or assembly lube in the cup and on the following surface when puttingi them in.

Standard are easier to build and maintain, but you have to manually set the valve train lash. Hydraulic means no valve lash setting (well, some, but very forgiving), but need appropriate oil to work properly.
