G'day, looking at purchasing a 308 with engine number quoted from the seller as:

QI165821

I assume the I should be an L or a T but from the proceeding numbers is it possible to tell which one it should be?

a 308 would be QT if it is from an HQ to HZ, this one would be from an HQ.

QL would be a 202 engine.

HQ-HZ red 308, well the number is anyway. Check the side of the block to see if it has 308 on it. Also check the casting date on the front of the block just above the water pump. Number in the format: 11E5 that is number, letter, number. If it's an early

It will be 11QT. No such holden V8 as IIQT. If it is II then it's been restamped and may be stolen. 1971-1979 HQ-HZ Statesman. Tell me the whole number and i'll tell you what model and year. Even better if you post the casting date as well.

That's a HX block. Barring the different drillings for 4speed vs TH autos the blocks are basically the same between the early 1969 HT Brougham block right through to a late 2000 VSIII. The only insurmountable difference is once VT was released the blocks

No. The ones with HP are just ordinary 308's, in fact the first of them. Most of them were in HT Broughams as the 308 was only available in Brougham until 307's ran out. For a few months post the end of 307 the rest of the HT range got the 308 with HP and

Sounds like an F5000 block, but normal HP blocks aren't F5000 blocks. They are identical to all other HT-HQ blocks. And they certainly weren't cast in 1978. I also wasn't aware of F5000/L34 blocks being 4 bolt. They were higher nickel content and I think
