a mate just bought a 253 motor, engine # QR4003 it would be the lowest I`v ever come accross from a HQ.

i wonder what the lowest (first) 253 engine number is? just out of interest, do you know terry?

The lowest W series (ie HQ on) engine with a Q prefix will be Qx1001. The x may have been a 253, but it also could be anywhere from a 130 up to a 350. The first 253 will probably be the one out of the Hurricane.

There is no crossmember as you see in a Commodore. The engine cradle is integral to the front subframe which is identical for all HQ-WB (except for the upper control arm mounting points for late HX onwards and the cut off nose and hence one bumper bar bol

Yes. Same as HK-HG and LH-UC except for the big block Opel 4cyl.

No. Gearbox crossmembers vary in HQ-WB, and are different for sedan/wagon/stateman and ute/van/tonner (shorter). These are the types:

M15, M20, M21, M22, M40 6cyl and V8.
M41 (TH400) 308 and 350.
M38, M41 (TH350) 308.
MC7 (Muncie) 350.
