I just picked up a VN with 300K on the clock(one lady owner). The motor has a rattle at idle. It is definatly internal, and sounds like a shaft of some sort. Can anyone tell me if these motors are known for this, and if so, what it would be. Cheers.

Rattle would most likely be the timing chain, particularly with those km on it. Theres also a balance shaft inside them thats driven off the cam timing system too. And also, the auto boxes in them can be a bit noisy with high km, so that could also be s |

I know that you say its definitely internal but its also possible that you could be lucky and find out its the water pump bearings. Slip the serpentine belt off and start the engine and see if the noise goes away. 300,000 if its had regular se Edited by user Thursday, 2 October 2008 9:21:32 PM(UTC)
