Some modifications to the old extractors off my car to allow them to clear the plug leads and be easier to fit. Also the basic exhaust system fabrication started.

Brake pedal box is being modified to move the brake booster/master cylinder closer to the centre of the car. This gives clearance around the bonnet hinge spring.

EPAS Steering column from a XC Barina being mocked up in the EH ute. It will fit with a few mods to the column and the brake pedal box. Once the mods were made I machined up and/or modified the top of the column to fit original EH column surround and switch gear. That means it should look original when completed..

Basic gearshift fitted. I'll use this as a starting point and hopefully turn it into something a bit different. A also received my Flaming River uni joint from USA. This adapts the Barina columns 17mmx 54 spline output shaft to standard 3/4" DD shaft.

Intermediate steering shaft mocked up. Final length still needs to be confirmed once everything is fitted 100% correctly

Top end of the Barina column finished. Once it's trial fitted I can work out the bottom end mounts...

Steering column coming along. Top and bottom mounts finished. The main intermediate mounts still need to be made. These are the ones that take the main torque loading of the column..

Barina EPAS column finished and installed. The main mount I fabricated has also become the rear mount for the brake pedal box. It's all 3mm steel so nice and strong. I still need to mount the intermediate steering shaft support bearing and then it's finished.

Original handbrake modified and refitted.




EPAS ECU fitted to the column in the original position. Plenty of clearance around brake pedal

A lot of small but important jobs taken care of.
Steering wheel sorted finally. Getting a Boss kit was hard. It had to come from UK.





Brake master cylinder pipes made and run down through the inner guard.

Transmission oil cooler also mocked up.






We are fitting A/C and need 18-1/2" of underdash space. We have 19" so it should fit.




A start made on mounting the fuse and relay panel.

Dash mockup






Airconditioning condensor, oil cooler and thermo fan mockup. Looks like it will all fit.










Even enough room for a 1.5" wide gilmer drive if I want to





Aircon unit mounted under the dash. I needed to modify the glovebox a bit to get it all to fit..






Fuse and relay panel will mount behind the glovebox and hinge down for access.

Once again, congratulations on such impressive builds, and on taking the trouble to share them with us.

I wonder how you go about getting the finished product certified, with so many alterations, modifications and fabricated parts in critical areas.
Do you involve the certifying engineer all the way along, or document each modification, or just present the finished product?

I shudder thinking about having to justify each and every alteration to a third party.

Getting an engineer involved at stage one is a good idea. It's also a good idea to read VSB14 and the VSCCS regulations from cover to cover. These outline all the requirements in pretty plain terms. I have also done this a few times before so that makes it a lot easier..
