If you are not keeping 100 percent original go the larger late style alt. the original one with external reg would be either 35 or 40 amps. Your twin thermos and stereo alone MAY draw 22-25 amps plus ignition / lights etc and also rev the shit out to get charge in. Most new late style alternators have a slow cut in speed with high output at low revs. Can't beat a Bosch in this case. Wiring change is easy.

Thanks: 1 times
I purchased a re-manufactured loom for my HT. Two things I changed
1 it's now wired for an electronic dizzy

2 it's wired for an internal regulated alternator.

But that said I'm still running a loom to the external reg so it retains the factory look.

you may have to have the ampmeter revised as the first thing the higher charging alternator will do is blow the meter.

not sure what is involved i fitted a 95 amp alternator to my hq and blew the ampmeter straight away I suggest a resistor or something, but i would take it to a sparky, any competent sparky should be able to fix it.
