The HA Viva was the first passenger vehicle that GMH sold in Australia with a 4spd manual transmission as standard but as we all know it isn't a Holden. Did GMH sell the PB Vauxhall Cresta with the optional 4spd manual or the 3spd manual with overdrive? I'd guess they didn't. I'm pretty sure they had front discs standard and this would be the first car GMH assembled and sold in Australia with front disc brakes as standard fitment? Out of interest, does anyone have ID plate photos for one of these? Also there is another good question for you Terry, which GMH assembled car was the company's first "Bathurst" win? Which GMH assembled car was the: First with synchro on 1st gear? First with electric wipers? First 6cyl with 12 port head? Which was the first GM car with a 202ci engine? |

The car was also a class winner. |

As you said, 64 viva was class winner not the outright winner. Cresta was classed as the winner in 60 but at Phillip Island. Car was in the Shepparton museum a year back.

There was no outright winner recognised in 1964 so the Viva was a winner. I put "Bathurst" in this form as the race was at Phillip Island for the 1960 race where the Cresta was also a class winner and also first to complete the 500 miles. |

The 1960 Armstrong 500 car was a PA Cresta. Byron, I'll email you some tag pictures. A different PA was entered for 1961, but crashed on the way to the Island.

Thanks Geoff. GMH came awful close to completing the Bathurst 500 miles first in 1963 too, the EH did well. |

I doubt it. Bert Cheney came close to losing his dealership over his involvement in the Cresta campaign, such was the G-MH disdain for racing. A G-MH PRODUCT is a different matter.

Yes, again all in the wording! The S4/S5 was however very much a GMH factory race special but like the later cars wasn't officially entered or raced by GMH. |

As far as I know the S5 is the race version of the road going S4. I don't know the specifics, but will ask. |

Does Aussie made mean it can be assembled here? Or are you looking for steel being pressed here? Do the gearboxes have to be made here? Or are we talking imported boxes in local cars? What I'm getting at is does the 1959 Ford Zephyr with its 3spd Borg Warner DG auto count? Edited by user Tuesday, 25 October 2016 9:23:44 AM(UTC)

First 202 Vauxhall The Vauxhall Cresta had synchro on 1st a lot earlier than the Viva as far as I know, but there may be earlier? You could be right with the blue flame but I thought it was a Siamese design like the Holden 6's. I think you are right with the Vauxhall 202, identical bore and stroke to the Holden 202. |

These 6 cars went to the Engineering Department. The difference between an S4 and an S5 is the S5 had a laminated windscreen and a specially prepared and dyno tested engine from the Experimental Engineering Department. What makes an S4? The following options on an EH225M: 427A Power Brakes. 529B HP engine equipment. 532A 3.55 rear axle. 562A 12 Gallon fuel tank. 566A High Temperature Brakes kit. 567A Special Tool Kit. S5 adds: 477A Laminated Glass Windscreens. Specially prepared engine. |
