Hi all. I pulled the motor and box out of my Van this morning and had trouble getting all the gear box cross member bolts out. 2 had rounded heads and were frozen solid. One of those broke off and the other 2 came out easily. I tried to get the bolts out of the extensions and they won't move either. They look like 'special' bolts with a big head and smaller nut and washer. The nuts came off easily. I haven't had a gas axe for more than 25 years so don't have anything to heat it before trying again. Any suggestions? I managed to get the motor and box out by removing the mount first and only just slipping it all out leaving the cross member in place. I borrowed the engine lifter from my neighbor after helping him fit a 6 cylinder motor into his $300 XE Fairmont Wagon and wanted to give it back ASAP. |

sounds like someone has put wrong bolts in. you used to put in what ever you had to fit not thinking somebody was actually going to remove them 20+ years later. try putting a wooden block between the extension and the floor and belt the fuck out of it with a drift bolt. someone on here will probably have a more sensible solution but I always say if it don't move hit it with the biggest hammer you've got
