Hi again

Does it matter which way the hoses are connected at the thermostat & water pump & also enter the heater ?

See the photos below, both are totally different so I assume it doesn't matter ?

On HQ and HJ there is a three way tap to turn water off from the heater when not in use. HX on have two hose tap.

HQ without a/cond has no tap, the water in the heater flows all of the time.

Because you have an HX/HZ thermostat & water pump, you will need to eliminate the short by-pass hose which runs from the thermo housing to the water pump. It is effectively 'shorting out" the heater & you will be getting virtually no flow thru the heater & no heat as a result.

The 3-way tap only applies to HQ with factory a/cond & HJ with a/cond or forced air ventilation.

Thanks Dr Terry

So you are talking about the short hose in the pics I posted ?, how do I plumb the hoses without it ? or do I need to go to HQ water pump & single spigot thermostat ?

Cheers

Pre-HX water pumps have been NLA for decades. There are 2 methods to block off the water hose.

You can buy 2 block- off caps (Mackay P/No. BC16) & cap off both fittings, eliminating the hose.

Another method is that some water pumps have one of the outlets is threaded & suppled with a block plug when new, so they can be fitted to HQ/HJ etc.

If your pump is threaded screw in a plug & refit the hose.

Cheers , so just remove that short pipe & use the 2 block- off caps ?

or block off the water pipe outlet with the block plug & use the single spigot thermostat housing ?

Is there actually any point to doing this with the 2 5/8 hoses from pump to thermostat ?, would be neater & easier to block all 4 ports with the BC16 blanking caps Dr Terry suggested
