Is it possible to replace the timing cover with fully removing the sump ?

I presume you meant to say without removing the sump whilst the engine stays in situ.
Look it is possible in theory to loosen/remove sump bolts to allow you to drop the front of the sump enough to take the timing cover off, but the issue is re sealing the sump, both around all edges and in the curved section at the front (difficult to get the rubber gasket to re-seat properly).
So can be done, but fiddly job with likely poor outcome.

Awful job. I’d lift the engine and transmission, will mean undoing exhaust and a few other things. Undo the sump and drop it down. Do the timing case cover and put back together. Still awful though and made worse if you have to remove gasket material. If it has a 1 piece rubber sump gasket that helps heaps, but if it is cork and rubber it will also have silastic. I’d remove the engine. |
