I've seen heaps of them where they have been cut and patched to fix this problem.

I have repaired a couple before without pulling them apart

Drill out the old spot welds with a qtr drill bit

Using wire, magnets, pry bars or any brilliant idea relocate baffle into position
I then put self tapping screws through the qtr holes I drilled to hold it in place.

Then its a matter of plug welding up the holes

It take patience and a bit of luck but can be done

Chris

Ps Once drained and washed out a good idea is to use exhaust gasses from a running car to quell any petrol fumes

Nitrogen could work too.
