Just wondering if anyone knows of any machine shops/mechanics/trans joints in adelaide that does block pattern changes for gear boxes as i want to change the stud pattern of my black 308 from trimatic to turbo set-up. Also is there anywhere that can do it while the engine is in the car or would it have to be removed, because i have heard it is possible to do it with engine still in car. I think you mean trimatic to TH pattern!
I dont think it can be done in the car. From memory it has to be a bare block too.

Cheers HK1837, i did mean traumatic to turbo, got too many things on my mind. Will be running a 9" diff, possibly 3.5s, dont think the trimatic will hold up after a few skids.

Yeah, ive checked out adaptors, dont think im too keen to use one though, would rather just change the block stud pattern or get a turbo pattern block. I have read a bit about adaptors and it seems to me that its jus as much of a stuff around to fit them etc as it would be to just get the stud pattern changed.
Id be keen to hear from anyone that is using these adaptors and what there opinion is. (TH400 box to Trimatic engine block)

I had one in a HJ Statesman and it busted the torque converter bolts when towing. Just get a VN-VSIII 304 block and use it. ALl the 308 stuff will fit on.

i had a t400 on a tri block, the bellhousing on the turbo box was cut and shut to suit the block and it was fine. Much simpler, probably cheaper, and the the trans doesnt need stripping to do the job. edit: i wouldnt use an adapter unless i was going to pull the convertor and have it altered to suit the 5/8" extra clearance. 11.38@117 Edited by user Tuesday, 9 March 2010 7:10:36 PM(UTC)
