I'm pretty sure it was only Statesmans that got those later engines. I remember discussing this with Ben a few years ago after finding one. Not sure if new info has come to light since then.

The last didgit (or two) in the suffix code was stamped in Australia. I think it changes depending on what the application was. Thats how the suffix code thing works in the US anyway.
Statesman and GTS might not be the same suffix.

No, it was stamped at the assembly plant in all examples I have seen, although I do vaguely remember seeing a H5 in GMH stamp at some stage.

Aah ok, I guess the engine plant knew where the engine was going and what type of car it was for.

This maybe the reason why there are two different HP Ratings for 350 Chev in HQ series. I have always wondered why the parts and service manual rate engine HP as 275 and the owners manual in my vehicle as 290.
Is it possible that the difference is due to exhaust and intake manifolds?
