they need work around the headlight area, we have used 3 sets and another shop i know has used 1 set and they did the same mod around the headlight, no biggy, just a bit of a reshape, even NOS or genuine always need a pull, bend, tap and a bit of persuasion to fit up nice.i did however find that the gills were split on all the sets we have used and required welding, but once again, no biggy. if you think any replacement panel will just fall into place, you suffer from the same delusion as those thinking you get quality paint for $500 today. still a good product though

Guards and panels are one thing, where are the bodies?

The bodies are a long way off and I doubt they will ever be made, if they were made they cannot be registered in the original configuration they would have to meet 2011 specifications which defeats the purpose .

Unless they're used for historic racing, but even then the numbers just wouldn't add up. Dr Terry |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Do you need a body number ( identifier number) for race cars , if so you will have a problem there as well.

yes in most cases you do need an identification number, aswell as most categorys having a vehicle build date restrictions and technically they would still be regarded as 2011 models in the EYE's of CAMS
i think even a few historic racing categories wont even let you race a standard hk unless it has some form of previous motorsports history from when it was new

nothing to stop them being built, less the fire wall & sold as a replacement part, no different to repo panels & a better idea in my opinion. I hope that they are considering a full HQ coupe 1/4 in the near future.. |

The authorities are well aware of that idea and have expressed their concern , they would probably be picked up at customs. The HK T G firewall has been made but cannot be used as that is where the identifying number is.

Les maybe they can be justified being made for the South African cars as these would be a direct replacement part.
As the SA cars do not have a number stamped onto the firewall !

Why can't they be made with obvious manufacturing differences which would make it impossible to alter them back to standard?
What I'm thinking is make all the external panels correct and then make the underpinnings to sit on which ever modern Commodore platform is the closest fit, make them to use the Commodore firewall, mechanicals and electrics.
I think that apart from restorers who would mainly want panels and not want to rebody a whole car most people are interested in having the classic Monaro body shape with modern mechanicals, suspension, steering and electrics.
Would building them that way enable them to be called replica's or kit cars while still allowing restorers access to new panels?

100% agree with 80569K. I doubt any fastlane user would EVER buy a new bodyshell, they would only ever be used as the basis for a big$$ build where a buyer got to build the car of their dreams if money was not an option because they would be mega bucks ala chip foose

First problem you would need an identifier (body number) which may not be easy to get if you can get one at all. Second problem is the completed car would have to meet 2011 ADR'S the same as a current Commodore. I doubt many people would want to go through all of this therefore the market would be reduced greatly making the project not viable.

i cant really see the problem with building a 2011 monaro in orignal 68 hk form, not everyman and his dog is going to run out and build one? you can go build a new hot rod fiberglass body new chassis and redgester it on hot rod redgo here in qld not sure what other states do. id could be issued with a chassis number in the build stage and stamped in befor paint so there for no fraud could be comitted??????? im sure most of these cars would be used for club runs, weekend drive, maybe the odd trip to work, ??? pete.

I am just passing on information that came out of a recent meeting with the police and the registration department of Victoria re federal law concerning new bodies being imported in to Australia. It may have been and probably was the case when these models were first made that the number was not that important but it is very important now.

As I have already said in a previous reply to this, I have seen two sets fitted up with bonnet. I've seen them in the flesh. Touched them, rubbed my hand on them, rubbed my crotch on them. They are fine. No mods. I know a resto place that wont repair the old ones anymore. Easier and cheaper to buy new ones and bolt them on. Throw out all your dented, bogged up, rusted originals. They're worthless now. Edited by user Saturday, 25 June 2011 7:03:57 AM(UTC)
