I just bought my son a VS, V6 Manual ute, the gear shifter is very sloppy, whats the best way to fix this problem?

i think late 1997 - 98 99 2000 VS box was Getrag box (better box to drive)

95 96 97 VS was T5

something like that.
what year is the ute?

I don't know that there's really anything you can do with the sloppy getrag.
They were crap from new compared to the earlier T5 (which itself is nowhere near as good as a toyota 5 speed shifter).

if it is a getrag they have a remote style shifter,the bush in this shifter(plastic) is prone to falling apart causing a lot of slop , part no 92051403

It should be a Getrag gearbox. AFAIK all VSII (June 96 onwards) V6 manual utes had the Getrag box.

The VS V8 utes got the Getrag about a year later (Aug 97) mid-way thru VSII, in line with the release of the VT.

Thanks guys, now all I have to do is work out how to get it out, I can see 2 studs going into the top of the box but thats about all I can see.
