Sorry I did not get to this as quickly as I promised.
I was wrong with tyre size - they are actually 215/65 X 14 not 215/60
I haven't been able to find a way of accurately measuring the distance between the tyre and the inner lip on the guards because they don't sit up inside the guard.
But, if I place a straight edge on the tyre, vertically across the centre of the wheels, the straight edge just touches the inner lip, on the front, and just clears it on the back.
However because the tyres are not square - that is they are narrower across the tread face than they are across the side wall if you get what I mean, plus the tread face of the tyres is below the guard lip, there is no issue - approx 1" difference in height between the top of the tyres and the guard lip on the front and 1.5" on the rear
I have the HK wheel spacers on the rear.
I have taken various photos to show clearance front and back as best I can and am happy to send them to you if you want - Just PM me.
Based on mine, I would be amazed if 8" would fit the rear of a HK without rolled guards, unless you removed the tramp rods or maybe resorted to the late 70s trend of putting air shockers in the back and jacking it right up (yuck).
I also asked a friend who runs the standard 6" steel wheels on his and he uses 205/70s with no clearance problem - he says they fill out the guards better than the narrower options.
