While I'm at it.....
I would like to put a set of 15" wheels on my car sometimes - (have original 14" x 6")
Car has factory tramp rods on rear - what would be the backspace and maximum width so as not to scrape and also some tyre size suggestions - narrower on front as no p/steer?
I remember I had to roll the guards on my original car but would rather not do that this time around.
Also what would be the maximum recommended radial size for the 14"??? I like the wide look.
Thanks

I have tried to source similar information regarding 14" wheels. From what I can gather generally 235 on rear and 225 on front (will depend somewhat on backspace) and you shouldn't have a problem.

Can't answer your specific question but I have 14X7 Aunger Hustler wheels on mine, as do many others. I have 215/60 tyres all round and the guards are not rolled and no problems. But wider tyre than that on the Hustler will rub I would think.

I do not profess to be a wheel expert at all but from my observations, I think the number of 15" wheel options in HKTG stud pattern is limited.

There is however a mob called Show Wheels who make 17" wheels in the KTG stud pattern. I saw a couple of sets on Monaros at Warwick Nats so maybe they could be one option?

Squeak how far inside the guards (front and rear) do they sit with 215 tyres on them? Have you lowered your car at all? Cheers.

Alex

Its up on the jacks at the mo but I will put it back down tomorrow and measure it for you. I measured the backspace on a spare rim and it is 115mm or 4.5 inches, give or take a poofteenth

I wanted to put 8" rims on the rear and 7"s on the front - hoping the rears would clear.
Also I havn't really found any wheels yet other than some older one's on ebay - they are hard to get it seems - also with 215 - 60s does that effect the gearing at all?

Sorry I did not get to this as quickly as I promised.

I was wrong with tyre size - they are actually 215/65 X 14 not 215/60

I haven't been able to find a way of accurately measuring the distance between the tyre and the inner lip on the guards because they don't sit up inside the guard.

But, if I place a straight edge on the tyre, vertically across the centre of the wheels, the straight edge just touches the inner lip, on the front, and just clears it on the back.

However because the tyres are not square - that is they are narrower across the tread face than they are across the side wall if you get what I mean, plus the tread face of the tyres is below the guard lip, there is no issue - approx 1" difference in height between the top of the tyres and the guard lip on the front and 1.5" on the rear

I have the HK wheel spacers on the rear.

I have taken various photos to show clearance front and back as best I can and am happy to send them to you if you want - Just PM me.

Based on mine, I would be amazed if 8" would fit the rear of a HK without rolled guards, unless you removed the tramp rods or maybe resorted to the late 70s trend of putting air shockers in the back and jacking it right up (yuck).

I also asked a friend who runs the standard 6" steel wheels on his and he uses 205/70s with no clearance problem - he says they fill out the guards better than the narrower options.
