Hi all, I've finally found the time to start the resto on my 1969 HT Monaro 80737. I am sure this site will be my Savior as the car was stripped 2-3 years ago, and as I'm approximately the same age as the car, my memory aint what it used to be! Having read back through previous posts I can see there are many GURUS willing to give their advice. So to my question, date code on toe of steering column is 7L9, date code on 16.7 ratio steering box is 19F0 about 7 months difference?; non-original steering box? or would this be normal for the era. Reason I ask is, the codes on my 1970 built kingswood sedan are both 6D0 for steering column and steering box. Not that it matters if its a non-original steering box, am just curious is all.. |

not often is steering box th same date as column. usually cuppla days, or even a week afterwoods. ALSO, so 'many' date th steering box same as "big nut" on m/cly also.. & this is wrong wrong wrong!! 99% of th time, big nut is (usually) a few days later, as they cant build rome all in one day!! juss nott possible

You'll find batch dates too, as the boxes weren't built at the assembly plants (I think they were built in Woodville SA?). Pre GTS when the 16.7 boxes were rarely used they can pre-date the car by months. As Davo says dates between parts are often close but not always. |

on front outrigger of K frame on LHS, should be close to st/box datecode

Yes ^^^^^ is correct. Stamped not stencilled, just forward of the elongated hole in the vertical passenger side face and you need to remove the splash pan to see it.

'D' who knows? they all seem to have that, regardless of disc or drum.. maybe all were made in dandenong? who knows..

Thanks for your help guys, next question; Brake Booster, non big nut m/cyl, date code 20G9(20 july 1969) P66133, VH312 and under this, Model N/ 1 and under this is stamped VH305 which has had 5 X's stamped over the top of the VH305. Whats this all about?? |

VH305 was the very first of the direct pushrod boosters (i.e. without relay levers) & was soon updated to VH315, aFAIK they are interchangeable.

P6613 is th code on alloy PBR m/cyl for disc brake. P6612 is for drum

So the "x"-ed out VH305 is fairly normal then? Had a look at wiper actuator arms today, BLI on both but on right end mount was BLK, left mount BLI?? |
