Just reading through my work shop manual on HQ's and it says that there were two makes of alternator, starter motor etc used. Lucas and Bosch. What cars got what or was it lucky dip feel for the cars with Lucas parts...... Left Us Cold And Stranded!

Holden had 2 auto electrical suppliers in those days & yes it was a lucky dip.
An old joke in the auto electrical trade goes like this.
Why do Pommies drink warm beer ? Because Lucas built their refrigerators.

While it is bad, everything is relative.
Have you ever worked on any early Italian or French cars ?

In HQ, both Lucas & Bosch alternators had external regs, However some internal reg types (HJ style) can be seen on very late production HQs. Late LJ also had internal type alternators. Dr Terry |

Yeah i have worked on them as well.. to be fair i find Lucas wiring easy to repair as i know now what color wire is meant to what. Most problems are because people modify and over load the looms.
