Normal running temp. for a 186 would be 80-85 C.
A 'slightly worked' one would just run hotter at idle unless you've increased the fan & radiator size to cope.

First thing to do is get the temp. gauge reading verified. A hand-held infra-red thermometer is a common mechanics tool these days. It's quick, accurate & easy to use.
More often than not the temp. gauge is telling fibs.
